Tony Esteves showed up as a local shipping logistics manager for the US Air Force’s Karshi-Kanabad (K2) airforce base in Uzbekistan. It was intended to be a job leading a logistics team that handled the normal comings and goings of deliveries and shipments from the air force base.
But things changed quickly…
A short time after he arrived, the whole air force base needed to be moved from Uzbekistan to Afghanistan during the height of the Afghan conflict. And Tony had to manage the shipment of all of it. In a place where he was just learning the language, with a very young team of locals and across a war zone.
